The 5511 PCI FDDI adapter gives PCI bus-based personal computers and workstations easy access to an FDDI network and the assurance that mission-critical applications will perform with a high level of reliability. Utilizing the high-performance characteristics of both PCI bus and FDDI, the 5511 delivers network throughput at near the theoretical limit of FDDI. Interphase designed the 5511 to capitalize on the high performance of PCi-based systems with a Direct Memory Access (dma) architecture. This eliminates redundant data copies, thereby improving data throughput. An additional 128K of buffer ram memory delivers maximum data throughput when either the network or CPU are occupied. To further maximize data movement, the 5511 supports full 32-bit wide PCI bus data transfers and data bursts of up to 64 bytes.
